Voting analysis

International affairs and defence between them account for the overwhelming bulk of Sara Jacobs's classified filings; everything else on her list is a remainder. She is ranking member on Africa at Foreign Affairs, and one of her bills concerns security sector governance compacts — the arrangements under which the United States helps another country's army and police become answerable to its civilians rather than to itself.

Sponsored bills carry the Congressional Research Service's own subject classification. Sara Jacobs's cluster into: International Affairs (19), Armed Forces and National Security (14), Government Operations and Politics (4), Health (4), Taxation (3), Commerce (2).

Infant drinks and model governance

Two of her filings sit well outside that frame. One directs the food and drug regulator to rewrite the rules on beverages sold for infants and toddlers. The other proposes governing artificial intelligence sector by sector rather than through a single statute — a live argument about whether general-purpose technology is better regulated where it lands than where it is built.

A Florida Republican elsewhere on this site filed a bill setting maximum contaminant levels in infant formula. Two members, opposite parties, both spending part of a short list on what the youngest people in the country are given to drink.

Where she broke ranks

Five refusals, every one on a bill her caucus supported and the House passed: a children's online safety act, organised retail crime, a shrimping measure, an Iran resolution, and the consolidated appropriations act. Her lone crossing went to a war powers resolution that failed.
