Crossing toward enforcement and work

Against most of his caucus he backed a bill removing employment barriers for disabled people, a main street economic measure, fraud prevention, wider veterans benefits, bail reporting and fuel retailing. Running the other way, he opposed an extension of foreign intelligence surveillance authorities that his caucus supported.

That last vote is the one that complicates the picture. A member crossing rightward on crime and work while refusing a surveillance renewal is not simply moving toward the other party; he is applying a civil liberties position his caucus did not share.
